SurgiCount Medical is working with both the world's leading instrument manufacturers and with global standards bodies in an effort to codify specifications for unique instrument identification. Unlike RF and RFID sponge companies that employ proprietary technologies, we have purposely chosen an open standard and are designed to be brand agnostic. Since we were founded, and are run, by healthcare professionals, we recognized that hospitals and surgeons have strong allegiance to instrument brands.

Only with SurgiCount's collaborative approach would hospitals retain their current instruments and preferred suppliers.

While there are no dedicated products currently to scan and count instruments while they are being used, there are several products available in the market today for sterile process management. Since all rely on the same basic data matrix technology that we utilizes for our own sponges, our SurgiCounters are able to scan the instruments. While there are still cross-brand issues to be addressed, technologically, SurgiCount will be able to scan instruments that have been labeled.
