SurgiCount Medical: Safety-Sponge: Citadel Database

The Citadel™ File Manager is a network-based MIS suite of applications that remotely capture, aggregate, route to an EMR, and display all the individual count reports created on a SurgiCounter. Created specifically for OR managers, educators and risk managers, it allows users to view count reports at any time from any location as well as allowing users to calculate count-related measured outcomes instantaneously. Citadel can operate as a standalone application or can share its information with electronic medical record programs.

Electronic Count Reports

Reports are automatically downloaded off SurgiCounters and show:

The overall sponge count results
Patient, staff, surgeon, and service information
Every single sponge serial number scanned in and out
The time stamp for every scan
Any notes written by staff
Staff changes
Reports are printable and attached to the patient’s medical record

Measured Outcomes
Citadel instantaneously calculates dozens of pre-set measured outcomes based on user-selected options. This information can be used to measure both trends and performances over time, evaluate six-sigma goals/compliance, identify service teams or individuals for re-education, or to document problems and events for state regulatory bodies, Joint Commission or other organizations.

Search

Searches can be set to:

Detect any report that was incorrect or had a sponge manually counted out
Determine if there are particular staff members having repeated problems that need to be addressed through re-education
List all reports where a particular nurse/scrub/surgeon participated
Determine in what case a particular (sponge) serial number was used in
Cross reference any two fields

Asset Control

The Citadel application also contains an asset control module for authorized
bio-med and IT staff members. It can:

Remotely upgrade SurgiCounters to the latest software release and functionality
Track the usage of all units
View current status of all units

Citadel Desktop

Requirements (deployed on existing PC's)

Citadel Desktop is the Windows XP-based application/front-end used to view historic count reports and outcomes.

Connectivity requirements: Basic network access
The application communicates over TCP/IP

Citadel File Manager	Requirements:
A networked software server (client/server) installed on a dedicated Windows workstation or server somewhere in the infrastructure ANSI/ISO SQL-2003 compliant, complete Unicode support, ODBC Driver There is one application for an organization	Minimum hardware requirements: High end PC (recommended: dual or quad core, 2GB RAM, fast hard drive), Windows XP Pro Compatible with WinServer 2003+ Connectivity requirements: Basic network access, with one open port (configurable) needed for access by clients Uptime: Machine should up 24/7 (“Always On” power management profile)

Citadel Agent	Requirements: (deployed on existing PC's)
A small application that runs in the icon tray of any Windows PC in or near the operating room where SurgiCounters will be docked to. The agent handles transferring reports to the File Manager and device upgrades There can be any number of agents	Hardware requirements: Typical PC, with a USB port and cradle to attach SurgiCounters Software requirements: Windows XP Pro, Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or greater Connectivity requirements: Basic network access The agent communicates over TCP/IP Up as needed: Up as needed
