President and Chief
Executive Officer- Steve Kane. Prior to joining
the Company as CEO, Mr. Kane served as the Company's Chairman
of the Board of Directors since March of 2008 and brings
more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry
to the company. His background encompasses sales, marketing
and operations as well as successfully raising capital
from both the public and private markets. Most recently,
Mr. Kane was CEO of Protalex, Inc., an early stage drug
development company. Previously he was Vice President of
North American Sales and Field Operations for Aspect Medical
Systems, where he helped guide that company through a successful
initial public offering in January 2000. Prior to that,
Mr. Kane was Eastern Area Vice President for Pyxis Corporation,
where he was instrumental in positioning the company for
its initial public offering in 1992 and its subsequent
sale to Cardinal Health for approximately $1 billion. Earlier
in his career, Mr. Kane worked in sales management with
Eli Lilly & Company and Becton, Dickinson & Company.
VP, Sales and Clinical Field
Operations - Tony Embree brings over 27 years
of sales, sales management, and procedural supply chain
consulting experience in hospital operating rooms and
the procedural area environment. Previous experience
includes 24 years with Cardinal Health in a variety
of leadership positions that have prepared him for his
current role. Tony joined the company in January, 2008
and has played a key role in driving adaptation of the
Safety Sponge System while serving as Midwest Area Vice
President. Additional entrepreneurial experience includes
co-founding and launching a medical technology company
from concept to market.
VP, Finance, CFO - Marc Rose joined
the Company in November 2009 and has over 23 years experience
in financial management. Prior to joining Patient Safety
Technologies, Inc., Mr. Rose was Vice President, Chief
Financial, Treasurer and Corporation at Protalex, Inc..
Prior to that, Mr. Rose was the Vice President and Chief
Financial and Chief Information Officer of the DentalEZ
Group, a privately held manufacturer of dental equipment
and dental handpieces. Mr. Rose was a Practice Manager
for Oracle Consulting Services, a division of Oracle
Corporation, responsible for designing and implementing
ERP applications. His experience also includes several
positions within the controllership organization of
Waste Management, Inc. and he was an auditor with the
Philadelphia office of Ernst & Young. Mr. Rose is
a Certified Public Accountant and received his BA in
Accounting/Finance from Drexel University.
VP, Corporate/Manufacturing Operations, Product
Development, – Nicolas
Soichet has led several departments since the founding
of Patient Safety Technologies including business development,
research & development,
and marketing. He lead the development of the Safety-Sponge™ and
Citadel™ products, the development of our proprietary
sponge manufacturing processes, as well as the expansion of
our IP portfolio. Nicolas currently oversees overall operations
and development. His business background encompasses investment
banking, strategic operations, and manufacturing.
VP, Business Development - Brian Stewart is
an original founder of SurgiCount Medical and co-inventor of
the Safety-Sponge™ System. Prior to rejoining the company,
Brian worked in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse
where he provided advisory and financing services to financial
sponsor clients and their portfolio companies. Prior to Credit
Suisse, Brian was an investment banker at CIBC World Markets
and Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette where he focused on both
mergers and acquisitions and leveraged finance. Brian received
his MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA and his BA in Economics
from UCLA where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude.
VP, Clinical Development and Education - Ruth Vaiden has
over thirty years of experience as an operating room nurse and
RN first assistant, as well as ten years as a Director of Surgical
Services in hospital systems, offering the firm and its clients
unique knowledge and skills. Ruth has an extensive background
in perioperative standards and recommended practice, minimally
invasive surgery, management, healthcare communication, healthcare
survival strategies, standards of nursing, and experience with
The Joint Commission/AAAHC accreditation processes. Ruth
has authored more than 20 professional journal articles, is
a past National President of AORN, and a past President
of the AORN Foundation and is also a member of several other
professional associations.
